Apache Ignite 1.7 Includes Tighter Integration with the GridGain Web Console
GridGain Systems, provider of enterprise-grade in-memory computing platform solutions based on Apache® Ignite™, announced the availability of the GridGain Professional Edition 1.7, a fully supported version of Apache Ignite 1.7. The GridGain Professional Edition includes the latest version of Apache Ignite, plus patches that have not yet been released in Apache Ignite and high-value LGPL libraries. Key new features released in the GridGain Professional Edition 1.7 include non-collocated SQL joins and enhanced support for managing GridGain Professional Edition clusters using the GridGain Web Console. The Apache Ignite 1.7 release also gains enhanced integration with the complimentary GridGain Web Console online tool for deployment, management and monitoring.
GridGain Professional Edition users receive regular maintenance releases with timely bug fixes. These bug fixes are contributed to the Apache Ignite project but are not released until the next Apache Ignite release cycle. The GridGain Professional Edition 1.7 is available by subscription to GridGain Standard Professional Support service customers. The GridGain Professional Edition is for companies that want support, timely bug fixes, and an easily deployed package when using Apache Ignite in production.
The GridGain Professional Edition 1.7 broadens SQL application use cases to support super-fast, complex queries across highly scalable and distributed data sets, and provides enhanced management for business critical deployments,” said Abe Kleinfeld, President and CEO of GridGain. “These enhancements again demonstrate why Apache Ignite and GridGain continue to lead the in-memory computing revolution by delivering the world’s fastest growing, open source in-memory computing platform.”
Based on Apache Ignite, the GridGain In-Memory Data Fabric enables high-performance transactions that run up to 1 million times faster than disk-based approaches. It provides high-speed transactions, real-time streaming and fast analytics in a single, comprehensive data access and processing layer that supports ACID transactions and is ANSI SQL-99 compliant. GridGain powers existing and new applications in a distributed, massively parallel architecture on affordable, industry-standard hardware, which can be scaled out to manage petabytes of data by adding nodes to the cluster. The GridGain In-Memory Data Fabric requires minimal or no modifications to the application or database layers for architectures built on SQL, NoSQL or Apache® Hadoop® databases.
Non-Collocated Joins
Support for non-collocated joins addresses a key issue with performing SQL queries across distributed systems. Non-collocated distributed joins allow ANSI SQL-99 queries to be run on data located across multiple nodes in the GridGain cluster. For example, if 2014 customer sales data exists on one node, while 2015 customer sales data exists on a different node, users can now construct a query across both sets of data such as “What was the combined sales by customer for 2014 and 2015?”
Managing the GridGain Professional Edition and Apache Ignite with the GridGain Web Console
Users can now leverage all of the configuration, management and monitoring tools in the GridGain Web Console for managing their GridGain deployment:
- Configure clusters and caches
- Import database schemas from virtually any RDBMS
- Run free form SQL queries on caches
- Monitor and manage a running deployment
Enhanced integration with the GridGain Web Console is also included in Apache Ignite 1.7. The GridGain Web Console is a complimentary online tool available at https://console.gridgain.com/.
More Features
GridGain Professional Edition 1.7 also includes:
- Native Integration with Apache® Cassandra™ – GridGain offers out-of-the-box integration with Apache Cassandra, making it easier for customers to use Cassandra as persistent storage and offering Cassandra users 1,000 times faster processing by moving to in-memory and the ability to run ad hoc SQL queries.
- ODBC Driver – In addition to the already supported JDBC driver, the new ODBC driver enables customers to connect to GridGain from any language platform. Customers can also now analyze data stored in GridGain using Tableau or any other standards-based analytics tool.
