  • Everyone’s a leader, baby, that’s the truth!

Posted by: Chris Mason on 9th August, 2011

I remember moving to Leeds 7 years ago and thinking of the prophecy we had received as a family of churches to ask God for ‘thousands of churches and churches of thousands’ and then doing some maths. If there are 600,000 people in the city, then to see the city fully glorifying God – we’d need 600 churches of 1000+ people! Currently there was one church in the whole city teetering at 1000 and about 150 churches ranging from 10 to 500. Leeds was not evangelised yet! We had a long way to go.

And that got me thinking about the nation.  With a population of just under 70m people we will need 70,000 churches of over 1000 people – that’s an incredible amount of new communities worshiping Jesus – that’s a lot of Churches to be started!

So, we have a challenge.  Jesus said “ask the Lord of the harvest for workers” – so let’s get asking.  Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself to be His answer.  You see the mantle is ours.  We are the new generation of Jesus loving, church building leaders that have been trained and taught to establish New Testament churches in this nation – NOW IS THE TIME!  If you’ve ever thought, “hey, I love Jesus and I love the church” then you’ve already got what it takes to lead in the body of Christ – a love for the groom and bride.  In fact we’re all called to lead, it’s just a matter where you and who you will lead.  All of us are called to lead in our workplaces, homes, schools, colleges, universities and churches – to lead people to God and testify to a new Kingdom coming.  But some of us are also called to lead Churches – ask most of the current church planters in Newfrontiers at the moment when they felt God call them to lead the church and for most it’ll be at university or in their twenties.  Is God calling you?

So why not join a church plant?  Why not plant a church?

Too far fetched?  I thought so too, until God called me to plant a church in West Leeds.
